An Epitaph

Our beloved Cynthia Price Cohen passed from this world on Thursday, October 11th, 2007, after a long and heroic battle with lung cancer.

She had been diagnosed in July of 2006, and wasn't expected to survive more than a few weeks. But she received a miracle remission, and was given another full year of life to be lived and lived well. She was readmitted to the hospital on July 18th, 2007. We had all hoped for another miracle, and nearly got it. In the end, it was not the cancer that took her, but an opportunistic infection. So she beat the odds and, really, beat the cancer.

She fought with dignity, grace, aplomb and style--which was as she lived her life. She took great pleasure in confounding and perplexing the doctors by continuing to live, and even improve, when they had written her off months, or even a year, before.

Her passing was peaceful and quiet. She departed with grace and dignity, surrounded by her family: Her Husband of 54 years, Joseph; her sons James and Andrew and her daughter-in-law Sarah. She is also survived by her Sister-in-law Rheta.

She leaves us with a sadness and loss that words could never properly describe, shape or convey. With her passing, the world becomes a darker, emptier place.

Cynthia was woman of great heart, great intellect and great passions. She was larger than life in so many, many ways.

We that survive her are deeply and forever grateful for having had a mother, a wife, a friend of such love, warmth and stature. And grateful also for the extra year we had with her.

There will not be a funeral, as Cynthia hated funerals. But at some future date we will have a memorial service to celebrate her life. We invite all of you, friends, family and colleagues to attend, it would mean so much to us.

We encourage you to post to this blog stories about Cynthia's life, your thoughts, your memories of her--anything you have to say. And let us know how to contact you, if you wish to take part in her memorial.

We all loved her so much.
